Holy foregone conclusion, Batman!

Apologies for not posting recently; life gets in the way every so often.

At any rate, as I was making my usual rounds through the blogosphere, I ran across a post at MotorAuthority  that blew me away with it’s stunning obviousness.

In a nutshell, the National Center for Public Policy Research  recently released a study where consumers were asked if they would support an increase in gasoline taxes to support initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Predictably, 48 percent of those surveyed were unwilling to spend a single cent more in taxes to support such an initiative. Those who favored the initiative soon recanted when informed that results could be a long ways off with marginal net improvement.

What? People dont’ trust the State to spend tax revenue efficiently?

Holy foregone conclusion, Batman!

Congress has made a name for themselves as one of the slowest, most wasteful bodies of governance.
Voters have every reason to reject such a measure..

For every gallon of gasoline pumped in California, eighteen cents in taxes are handed over to the State,  for the exclusive purpose of maintaining and improving our roads. Despite this, our streets rival the surface of the Moon in their chasm-ridden topography.

We’ve passed countless ballot initiatives to keep the hands of the Assembly out of the gas tax cookie jar, yet they keep on stealing for projects that have nothing to do with state infrastructure. Since the legislature can’t be trusted to spend 18 cents per gallon  in accordance with voters wishes, why on earth would anyonetrust them with 36 cents, nevermind 50…
